Lexus’s NX takes everything great about its big brother the RX and fits it into a trimmer, sportier package. The NX comes equipped with either a turbo charged inline 4 cylinder or electric motor assisted hybrid engine. Half of the RX’s 8 trim levels and all of its hybrid variants offer AWD.

Inside, the Lexus cabin is quiet, cozy and luxurious with heated front seats, power folding and reclining rear seats and optional moon roof for watching the snow come down. Roof rails are standard equipment on all 5 models of the RX. Active and passive safety systems including blind spot warning, triple beam LED head lights and LED cornering fog lamps keep you safe as you wind your way up and down the mountain.

Volkswagen follows up the success of its newly launched Atlas with the additional of the Atlas Cross Sport for 2020. The new crossover sports an edgy rake to the rear roof line, 21” wheels and eliminates the 3rd row to create a roomier back seat. Equipped with either a standard 2-liter 4-cylinder or an available 3.6-liter V6, the Cross Sport has plenty of power for a trip to Mammoth. VW’s 4-Motion AWD is available with 4 selectable driving modes to keep you pinned to the road.

The Cross Sport’s tech includes wireless phone charging, a digital cockpit with 10” display and pedestrian and blind spot monitoring to keep all your ski buddies safe when you’re navigating that parking lot at
the base of Big Bear.

The Cayenne’s initial release was an immediate success. It drew design cues from the iconic 911 as well as that car’s incredible engineering. In 2020 Porsche offers multiple trim levels of the Cayenne. All are thrilling to drive with the the base turbocharged V6 putting out 335HP, while the twin-turbo V8 hybrid puts out an ice melting 671 HP and a top speed north of 183. Just remember to get it down to 35 when entering Lone Pine.

All models come with AWD standard to get you off the highway and into the snow. Porsche’s TECHQUIPMENT accessories package makes loading skis and boards easy and safe.  New for 2020 Porsche is also offering a Cayenne Coupe model that lowers the stance and rakes the rear deck to tip this sport SUV a bit further into the sport camp. The Outback has enjoyed a 25 year history as one of Subaru’s iconic vehicles. 2020’s exterior redesign slightly updates the latest iteration of the Outback. Inside, the Outback’s cabin has undergone an upgrade as well with new, more luxurious materials.  An optional wifi hotspot an 11-inch, vertically-oriented monitor are also available as part of the Touring trim level.

Underneath, the Outback has asymmetrical 4 wheel drive as
standard equipment but also Active Torque Vectoring to distribute wheel power as necessary for the conditions. Across 6 trim levels, the Outback can be as luxurious as you like, but all models are as rugged and reliable as Subaru’s reputation befits. Subaru’s dependable roof system and all weather rubber mats keeps snow and ice where they belong for the long drive home.

For 2020 Honda offers an updated Pilot, still one of the best values for SUV drivers.  Honda’s reliable V6 provides plenty of power its 9-speed automatic transmission and optional AWD gives the Pilot a smooth, stable ride. It can seat up to 8 or be configured with heated second row captain’s chairs to rest those aching bodies after a long day on the slopes. In addition to the existing 5 trim levels Honda is now offering a special “Black Edition” that was previously only available on the Ridgeline. Prices range from the low 30’s to just over 50k for the Black Edition. The Touring model offers the best feature set for the price including rear seat entertainment system and wifi hotspot for posting all your sweet moves on Instagram.

Audi’s refined interior and tranquil road manners make it a perfect ride for those long ski weekends. All three trim levels of the Q5 are powered by a 252 hp turbocharged 4- cylinder engine, seven speed automatic transmission and Quattro all wheel drive.  Adaptive suspension and multiple driving modes can help you conquer all of the road conditions you’l encounter on your way up to Mammoth. The cabin seats four adults comfortably with enough cargo and roof storage to outfit your whole group for the weekend. As you move up the range, Audi piles on the safety and convenience features like virtual cockpit, heads up display and virtual top down camera system for help parking between those two snow banks.

The Highlander is redesigned for 2020. All models now receive a 3.5-liter V6 as standard on gas models. Hybrids have a 2.7-liter inline 4 coupled to its electric motor. There are 4 hybrid and 4 gas trim levels, with the “Platinum” editions of each topping out at 42k and 46k respectively. All offer 3 row, 8 passenger seating, which will allow your kids to bring along a friend or two.  The exterior of the Highlander is also redesigned adding some  edge to the look of this icon of the soccer field and Trader Joe’s parking lot.
