VW Taos
I want to go to there

VW's compact SUV, the Taos, receives a substantial technical refresh focused on powertrain refinement, drivability, and upgraded convenience. Its turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four now produces 174 hp (up from 158) while maintaining 184 lb-ft of torque.

VW replaced the AWD model's seven-speed dual-clutch with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, which yields smoother low-speed behavior and better drivability for when you're cycling the base parking lot searching for a spot.

EPA fuel economy stays competitive at 28/36 mpg, which will make those multiple pow days this winter more affordable.

The Taos got a lush interior upgrade that includes a revised dashboard, standard Digital Cockpit (8 or 10 inches), and an 8.0-inch infotainment display across trims.

Audi A6 Allroad
Not All Roads are Created Equal

The GOAT of Euro sport wagons, the Audi A6 Allroad utilizes a 335-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and Quattro all-wheel drive. The powertrain delivers smooth, quiet acceleration and a 5.2-second 0-60 mph time, perfect for blasting out to Mammoth for a long weekend.

Its standard adaptive air suspension adjusts ride height and damping for comfort or terrain clearance. In off-road mode, the system adds 1.2-inches of lift, expanding the wagon's capability beyond typical luxury sedans while maintaining a composed, compliant ride on pavement, so feel great about taking the all road almost anywhere.

Fuel efficiency remains strong: EPA estimates are 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, surpassing key competitors. Interior technology includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a secondary climate-control display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Audi Virtual Cockpit, and a standard 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, with 19 speakers optional.

Genesis GV70
Birth of a Legend

Genesis has quickly established a reputation for having one of the most sumptuously appointed interiors of all luxury SUVs. The comfort of your car when going to and returning from the slopes can't be overestimated. For 2026, the Genesis GV70 offers two primary powertrains: a 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four and a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, both paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The V6 delivers 391 lb-ft of torque at just 1300 rpm and reaches 60 mph in 5.0 seconds; the four-cylinder is expected to do the same in about 5.8 seconds.

For the coming year, Genesis retunes the steering and suspension for improved ride and handling. The updated interior introduces a single 27.0-inch display serving as both gauge cluster and infotainment screen, complemented by a new touchpad-based climate-control interface. Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an available digital key.

Cargo space measures 29 cubic feet behind the second row and 57 cubic feet with seats folded. With a rack on top, there's plenty of room for 4 adults and their gear for a great ski weekend.

Porsche 911 Dakar
Rally Caps On

When Porsche debuted their first all wheel drive car, the mythic 959, it was an instant success, winning the legendary Paris-Dakar rally in 1985. Nearly 40 year later, Porsche  pays homage to that history with the 911 Dakar.

The Dakar adapts the Carrera 4 GTS's 473-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six and eight-speed PDK but adds hardware optimized for light off-road use. Key mechanical upgrades include rear-axle steering, active anti-roll bars, and an electronically controlled clutch pack capable of shifting torque from 88% front to fully rear-biased. Ground-clearance management includes a hydraulic lift system derived from the 911's front-axle lift but but now raises all four corners by 1.2 inches, yielding a maximum 7.5-inch clearance, a 16.1-degree approach angle, and a 19-degree break-over angle. The system automatically lowers above 105 mph. If only you skied so well.

This is all to say, you won't just be bombing down the slopes, you'll be the Bode Miller of Highway 395. Just keep it in check through Lone Pine.
